Introducing “The Playlist”

Being a lifestyle blogger I love having the ability to discuss things from my favorite fashion trends to my favorite music at the moment. I thought it’ll be a cool idea to share my playlist at the moment, so here’s to yet another addition to my blog, The Playlist. I am the type of person who puts off listening to new music because I find it a bit overwhelming, but after everyone raved about these albums I dedicated to check them out. Here is a list of seven of my favorite songs at the moment:

  1. Get To You – A boogie wit da hoodie
  2. Bad Girl – A boogie wit da hoodie
  3. F*cking & Kissing – A boogie wit da hoodie
  4. New Balance  – Jhené Aiko
  5. Sativa – Jhené Aiko
  6. You Are Here – Jhené Aiko
  7. Better Man – PARTYNEXTDOOR feat. Rick Ross

I love R&B music. Always have and always will. However, I am a sucker for Hip-Hop and R&B. I love when rappers can switch it up and speak on their feelings. A boogie definitely showed up and showed out with his Lauryn Hill “sample” in Get To You. I am impressed! “The Bigger Artist” is definitely a great debut album.

If anyone had to describe my music choice using one word it would definitely be “love.” And as you can see love is definitely the theme of this list. What are some of you guys favorite songs at the moment? Albums? Genres? Comment below!

9 Steps You Must Follow to Secure Flawless Skin

SkinCareLet’s talk skincare! With my love for makeup came my OBSESSION with skincare. The secret to flawless makeup is flawless skin! Might I add I don’t have perfect skin; however, I do know a thing or two about skincare. Recently, I’ve been finding so many great products for very inexpensive from Marshalls and TJ Maxx’s. If I was to buy some of the more expensive products in the picture above at Sephora I’m sure they would be double the price. When trying to successfully clear and maintain your skin you should consider these 9 steps:

  1. Cleanser: Cleansing is the most important step. Search high and low for a cleanser that you love. One that doesn’t dry your skin or doesn’t make your skin oily. I am the sample QUEEN. Before I bought the Glamglow Supercleanser (white bottle) I knew that I loved it from sampling it. When buying makeup/skincare I highly suggest always getting a free sample before purchasing it.
  2. Exfoliate: About 2-3 times a week I make sure I exfoliate to get rid of dead skin. Exfoliating is essential to healthy skin. I suggest that everyone should find an exfoliator that doesn’t irritate their skin but gets the job done.
  3. Mask: Masking is something I also do 2-3 times a week. I love masking! A couple of my favorite low-cost masks are Queen Helen Mint Julep and the Bentonite Clay mixed with apple cider vinegar mask. My favorite high-end is Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment.
  4. Toner: Ole Henriksen Grease Relief Face Tonic (green bottle) is a product that’s new in my regime. So far I like it a lot, but I find it stings a bit. I use it maybe 2-3 times a week. When I’m not using the face tonic I’m using my all time favorite Dickinson’s Witch Hazel.
  5. Spot treatment: I’m not one to use an acne spot treatment. However, for my dark spots, I use lemon essential oil and spot treat them. I don’t recommend lemon essential oil if you have sensitive skin. It stings! This is a fair warning. If you mix it with a moisturizer you won’t feel a thing.
  6. Serum: The serum I use is a Vitamin C and Collagen face serum. I found this serum at Marshall’s $5.99. I used to not think serum made a difference, but now that I’ve started using a serum I’m never going back!
  7. Eye cream: I’m a firm believer in eye creams. Eye creams are really light and specifically made for the area around your eye. I have dark circles and I hate them so I make sure I keep an eye cream in my regime.
  8. Moisturizer, Night Cream, & Face Oil: I’ve tried coconut oil as a face oil before and hated it. Becuase I have dry skin my preference is a moisturizer. Moisturizers keep my skin hydrated to the max. Lately, I’ve been using Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation moisturizer and I am in love. It is such a light everyday moisturizer.
  9. Pat dry your face in an upward motion with a clean WHITE washcloth to avoid breakouts from the dye in colored towels. To add, it is very important to wash, dry, and apply products to your face in an upward motion to avoid pulling of your skin.

In the morning, I’m typically pressed for time and only have time for cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. For the most part, I believe these are nine important steps you must take in order to have a successful skincare routine. Some people may even believe all these steps aren’t necessary but for me, these nine steps have done so much for my skin. A skincare regime is trial and error so you must find what works for you. I’ve changed my skincare routine drastically and definitely have noticed a difference. If you have any holy grail skincare products please let me know in the comments below! I’m a sucker for trying new products!

The First Vlog

I’ve decided to dedicate today’s blog post to the release of my youtube channel! During my time abroad I recorded my friends and I travel through Europe! Watching these vlogs makes me so happy.  I’m eternally grateful that I was able to travel with my friends and record our fun, jokes, and laughs. Be sure to check out my blog by clicking “The Vlog” on my sidebar and it will direct you to my youtube channel. Be advised that I will be posting these vlogs either weekly or bi-weekly, so please be on the lookout! Being that now I am so far removed from being abroad I hope that I could recall as much information as possible so that I can give insight on everywhere I’ve visited and helped guide others through their travels.

The First Vlog!

Our first stop was Berlin, Germany, but at that time I was still shopping around for the perfect camera. And that brings me to my London vlog. To be honest, this video is not my best vlog. The camera I had at the time was trash, as a result, this vlog is trash. LOL. The first vlog was in London! My first trip to London ended fast, however it was well worth it. The first stop we made was some sightseeing in Camden Town, where we shopped around. We then ended up at Maxwell’s Bar and Grill. If ever in London and want good food I would definitely suggest this place. Being in Europe Maxwell’s was the closest thing I ate similar to American food. I enjoyed the food so much that I returned the second time I visited London. The barbeque ribs and wings were great! And listen, the baked macaroni and cheese….. the baked macaroni and cheese was surprisingly verrry good (I think this was the start of my macaroni and cheese obsession).

Later that night, we attended Drake’s Boy Meets World Tour. Drake swears the UK is his second home, so of course, he was DTM, but he’s a dope performer. #TeamMeek. No, seriously the setup was fire! We definitely enjoyed ourselves.

We ended our night by going to the very well-known, Duck & Waffle. Duck & Waffle is a 24-hour restaurant in which I highly recommended. I mean how often do you eat duck, a sunny side up egg, and a waffle? AND it’s 24 hours! There were about 3 floors with a DJ each floor (this was early February, so my memory is really faded so I could be making this up lol) but the DJ’s played really urban hip music. Not to mention this is a pretty aesthetically pleasing place. I mean look at my picture above. I KNOW I KNOW it’s hard looking pass my highlight.

I can finally say go comment, like, and subscribe to my youtube channel!

The First Blog Post

The Jiara, Barcelona, Park GuellHi, all! Welcome welcome welcome to my blog! My name is Jiara, and I am more than excited to be here actually typing my first blog post! The thought of creating a blog has been something heavy on my mind, but I’ve finally made my way to a platform! Let’s be honest for a second, if creating a blog wasn’t a class assignment I still might have put my blog on hold. It’s the perfectionist in me. I want to ensure I deliver great content to my audience! As my first blog post, I wanted to formally introduce myself and explain why I am here. My blog will be a lifestyle blog with a great focus on beauty, travel, and fashion! My interest in creating a blog mainly started when I was abroad Spring ’17. Originally I wanted to create a travel blog and vlog (vlog coming soon), but I feel as though I have a wild array of interests that I’ll love to blog about! While abroad I discovered my passion for traveling, and how I want to make a positive impact on others’ view of traveling, specifically targeting those in the black community. Prepare for more organized thoughts and the creation of Jiara the blogger! Follow me as a twenty-one-year-old unapologetic Black girl from the South side of Chicago living and loving life.
